Based on Arto Paasilinna’s successful novel, THE YEAR OF THE HARE is an adventure trip through the wild environs of the northern hemisphere unlike any other you’ve seen.
Tom Vatanen (Subway’s Christopher Lambert) is a paparazzi journalist at the height of his career. One summer evening while on assignment, after encountering a tragedy even he can’t photograph, he nearly runs over a rabbit with his car on the outskirts of Montreal. This incident becomes a turning point in Tom’s life as he decides to break free from the world’s constraints. He quits his job, leaves his wife, sells his possessions and sets off to travel the wilds with his newfound travelling companion. From the American continent to the North Pole, their adventures take in forest fires, pagan sacrifices, military war games, killer bears and much more.
Masquerading as a burlesque and thrilling adventure story, THE YEAR OF THE HARE is ultimately a poetic social fable - a philosophical tale of man and environment. In the lead role, the magnetic Lambert delivers arguably his most touching and memorable performance.
